The Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will be in the Chinese mainland from January 25 to 28 for an official visit aimed at injecting new momentum into bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Chinas Ministry of Commerce announced on Thursday.
Finland holds a special place in the Chinese mainlands European partnerships. It was the first European nation to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with the Chinese mainland, laying a foundation for steady growth under the strategic guidance of both leaders.
In 2025, two-way trade between the Chinese mainland and Finland surpassed $8 billion, while mutual investment stock topped $23 billion. These figures reflect the expanding scope of collaboration, especially in green development and innovation-driven projects.
Orpo will lead a delegation including top executives from more than 20 Finnish companies active in machinery, forestry, clean energy, food and tech innovation. Their presence underscores Finlands strong commitment to deepening ties and exploring new opportunities.
The visit will also see preparations for the sixth meeting of the China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation. Around 50 companies are expected to participate in sessions designed to foster joint research, digital transformation and sustainable solutions.
During the visit, the Chinese mainlands Ministry of Commerce and the Finnish side will sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the committees work. Business delegations from both sides are set to finalise multiple commercial agreements, spanning sectors from renewable energy to advanced manufacturing.
Looking ahead, both sides recognise their strong complementarity and vast potential for collaboration in green and innovation-driven development. Officials from the Chinese mainland welcomed enterprises from Finland to seize the momentum created by the Chinese mainlands continued high-level opening up.
With sustainability and digital transformation at the forefront, the visit promises to set the stage for a dynamic era of Sino-Finnish cooperation.
