During Thursday's weekly press briefing, the Chinese mainland’s Ministry of Commerce responded to reports that TikTok has signed agreements with three investors to form a new US joint venture aimed at ensuring its continued operations.
A spokesperson said that this move is intended to implement the consensus reached during a recent phone call between the two heads of state. Both sides’ economic and trade teams have now agreed on a basic framework to address issues, including TikTok’s US operations, through cooperative measures.
The spokesperson also expressed the Chinese mainland’s hope that the US will work in the same direction, fulfilling its commitment to a fair, open, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment so that companies from the Chinese mainland can operate stably and sustainably in the US.
This statement underscores broader efforts to foster stable, healthy, and sustainable China-US economic and trade relations amid ongoing discussions over digital platforms and cross-border investment.
