The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in the northwest of the Chinese mainland, transforms this winter into a magical realm at the Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area. With snow-dusted peaks, couples say I do against the majestic Tianshan Mountains, connecting winter romance with nature's grandeur.
At 9 a.m. each day, the new marriage registration center welcomes newlyweds, featuring a “marriage registration plus travel” package. Launched in partnership with ten local travel agencies, the program offers lifetime free park entry and discounted transportation. “The Bogda Peak will forever witness our love,” say newlyweds Li Yazhou and Hao Juan, capturing the spirit of adventure and commitment.
Meanwhile, the annual food festival draws foodies from around the globe. A two-meter-wide pot of tender lamb simmers under bright lights, releasing inviting aromas. Visitors savor steaming lamb and crispy naan bread while enjoying Uygur dance performances and traditional music. “I’m so lucky to experience both the delicious food and lively performances,” says a student from Xinjiang University.
Gao Yuan, director of the Tianshan Tianchi Visitor Service Center, notes a sharp rise in attendance, with lamb dishes as the festival's best-sellers. He explains that the lamb is prepared three days in advance to ensure optimal flavor, which has led to long lines at food stalls.
This season features over ten new winter activities, from ice sports and snowmobile tours to glamping cabins overlooking frozen lakes. Ticket holders enjoy a 15 percent discount at the Tianshan International Ski Resort, making high-adrenaline slopes more accessible than ever.
Ju Longming, deputy director of the Fuka State-owned Forest Farm Administration, says the goal is to create an all-round winter destination. “By blending romance, culture, and winter sports, we’re showcasing the unique charm of Xinjiang's snowy landscapes,” he adds.
From romantic ceremonies to culinary feasts and snow-filled adventures, the Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area invites travelers and digital nomads to craft unforgettable winter memories in Xinjiang.
