Today, December 25, 2025, the Chinese yuan or renminbi (RMB) reached its strongest levels since September 2024, with both onshore and offshore markets marking notable gains against the US dollar.
On Thursday, the onshore rate climbed past 7.01 yuan per US dollar, while the offshore rate broke the 7.00 barrier. The central parity rate strengthened 79 pips to 7.0392, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.
Since the beginning of 2025, the offshore renminbi has appreciated by 4.6% against the US dollar, while the onshore rate has gained 4%. This year-to-date rally reflects growing confidence among investors in the Chinese mainland's economic outlook and its evolving role in global currency markets.
