China’s 2025 Middle East Tour: Diplomacy and Trade in Focus

As 2025 draws to a close, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi ended his Middle East tour on December 16, reinforcing ties across diplomacy, trade and regional peace efforts.

Earlier this month, Wang visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, Türkiye, Qatar and Jordan, engaging leaders on bilateral relations, energy cooperation and innovation partnerships.

On December 16, Wang pledged to consolidate cooperation in traditional areas such as oil and gas, while urging deeper collaboration in innovation-driven emerging sectors like clean energy, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. "China will continue to be a trustworthy and reliable friend and partner in their modernization efforts," he told reporters.

Frequent and fruitful exchanges

This year, China’s diplomacy in the Middle East has been characterized by high-level communication and in-depth talks on global governance reforms and regional hotspots. Observers note that Beijing’s balanced engagement strategy involves both securing energy supplies and exploring new markets.

Commitment to peace

Alongside economic outreach, China reaffirmed its dedication to "unremitting efforts" for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and an early, comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian question. As the world’s second largest economy, China is positioning itself as a mediator that combines trade with diplomacy.

With new cooperation frameworks under negotiation, 2025 has proven to be a pivotal year for deeper China–Middle East integration, setting the stage for collaborative growth and stability in the coming decade.
