This year, the Chinese mainland's Jimunai Port in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region achieved a milestone: live king crab imports topped 100 million yuan (about $14.3 million), setting a new annual record for 2025.
Since October 2024, Jimunai Port has served as the region's exclusive gateway for live king crab, thanks to priority customs clearance, arrival inspection, and fast-track release. These measures ensure the crabs arrive fresh and ready for market.
Arctic king crabs are either shipped directly to consumers in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai or held in temperature-controlled tanks before distribution. This streamlined process reduces spoilage and guarantees top quality.
The surge highlights Xinjiang's emerging role as a vital hub in meeting the Chinese mainland's luxury seafood demand. It also reflects broader advances in cold-chain logistics and inland trade routes that are reshaping supply chains far from the coast.
As global seafood demand grows and logistics technology evolves, inland ports like Jimunai are poised to become key players in connecting producers, distributors, and consumers across vast distances.
