Thailand Thanks China for Easing Border Tensions with Cambodia

In a recent diplomatic move on December 24, 2025, Thailand publicly thanked the Chinese mainland for its role in de-escalating border tensions with Cambodia. At a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura highlighted the mainland’s neutral stance and commitment to promoting peace during the Thailand-Cambodia confrontation.

Balankura noted that the Chinese mainland dispatched Ambassador Deng Li to both Bangkok and Phnom Penh, where the envoy reiterated the mainland’s non-interference policy and called for dialogue. This intervention has been credited with helping to calm nerves on both sides and pave the way for renewed diplomatic talks.

“We appreciate the Chinese mainland’s engagement and clear support for a peaceful resolution,” said Balankura. He confirmed that Thailand will continue to update the Chinese mainland through established diplomatic channels as discussions progress.

This development comes amid broader efforts by ASEAN members to promote stability in Southeast Asia. Observers say the Chinese mainland’s neutral approach could serve as a model for future conflict resolution in the region.

As Thailand and Cambodia prepare for the next round of talks, young global citizens, business leaders, and travelers alike are watching closely to see how this diplomatic breakthrough might influence regional cooperation, trade, and tourism in 2026.
