Chinese Mainland Accuses Taiwan Authorities of Selling Out Competitive Industries

On Dec. 24, 2025, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, Peng Qing'en, strongly criticized Taiwan authorities led by the DPP for "selling out" the island's competitive industries.

Peng argued that the so-called "democratic supply chain" championed at the summit runs counter to economic and market principles. "Driven by separatist agendas, the DPP authorities have deliberately fueled ideological confrontation, which lacks public support," he said.

He warned that trading away key industries in exchange for external backing risks escalating cross-strait tensions and undermining the economic lifelines of Taiwan residents. "Such actions will only increase the burden on residents and sacrifice the island's future development prospects," Peng added.

Peng's remarks reflect a broader diplomatic standoff as the United States seeks to build allied supply chains, and the Chinese mainland pushes back against what it sees as separatist moves. The debate over the silica summit highlights the tightrope that Taiwan authorities walk between attracting foreign partnerships and managing relations with the mainland.

As global supply chains become a key focus of geopolitical strategy, young entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts across G20 nations are closely watching how cross-strait dynamics will shape market access, innovation partnerships, and regional stability.
