This year, the Chinese mainland's largest offshore oilfield, the Bohai Oilfield, produced more than 40 million tonnes of oil equivalent, an all-time high, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Sunday.
Overseeing more than 60 oil and gas fields and operating over 200 production facilities in the Bohai Sea, the oilfield has achieved annual output growth of 5 percent over the past five years. This rise accounts for nearly 40 percent of the Chinese mainland's increase in crude oil production, highlighting Bohai's pivotal role in national output.
According to CNOOC, this record output will support national energy security and high-quality economic and social development. As energy markets evolve, the Bohai Oilfield's milestone demonstrates the potential of established offshore assets to bolster domestic supply and sustainability.
