Chinese Mainland Coast Guard Patrols in Xiamen-Kinmen Waters Aim to Safeguard Order

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that regular law enforcement patrols by the Chinese mainland coast guard in Xiamen‐Kinmen waters help maintain maritime order.

These remarks came in response to media queries about the coast guard’s recent patrol in the so‐called 'prohibited waters' near Kinmen, an island administered by the Taiwan region off the coast of Xiamen city.

He stressed that Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu are parts of China and pointed out that the Xiamen‐Kinmen waters have long served as traditional fishing grounds for residents on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, adding that the notion of 'prohibited or restricted waters' is baseless.

Chen noted that the patrols also safeguard the lives and property of fishermen from across the Taiwan Strait and demanded that DPP authorities stop the arbitrary detention of mainland fishing vessels and crews, as well as the dangerous and violent treatment of fishermen. 'Otherwise, the DPP authorities will have to face all ensuing consequences,' he warned.
