Neo-Chinese Fashion: Tradition Meets Streetwear on the Chinese Mainland

Fashion's cyclical nature is ushering in a new wave of nostalgia-driven design where old meets new.

On the Chinese mainland, this cultural renaissance is embodied by Neo-Chinese, or xin zhongshi, a buzzword embraced by young consumers reviving traditional attire with modern flair.

At Shanghai Fashion Week on the Chinese mainland this year, sports apparel giant Adidas introduced its Chinese New Year 2026 collection, titled "Power of Three".

Drawing on Eastern aesthetics and classical craftsmanship, the lineup blends jade-style buttons, cloud-pattern quilting and palace-skirt inspired hems with contemporary streetwear silhouettes.

This blend of heritage and innovation highlights how tradition and modern design can co-create fashion masterpieces with a touch of nostalgia.
