Global Forum on Mutual Learning among Civilizations Kicks Off in Macao SAR

Tomorrow, December 16, 2025, the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) will welcome the 2025 International Forum on Mutual Learning among Civilizations. This two-day event brings together more than 50 representatives from government departments, international organizations, and leading experts and scholars from nearly 10 countries.

The forum coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Historic Center of Macao's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2005, this dense urban landscape of temples, fortresses, and colonial architecture began a new chapter as a global heritage site. Over the next two days, attendees will explore how Macao's centuries-old East-West cultural convergence continues to inspire innovation in creative industries, sustainable tourism, and digital heritage preservation.

β€œBy hosting the forum in Macao SAR, global experts and scholars will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the city's centuries-long East-West cultural convergence and integration, and help spread these unique characteristics,” said Leong Wai Man, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR government.

Panels will cover themes such as cultural entrepreneurship, immersive travel experiences, and the role of technology in safeguarding intangible heritage. For young global citizens and digital nomads, the forum offers a chance to connect with changemakers and thought leaders, exchange ideas on cross-cultural collaboration, and discover how historic sites can drive economic growth without sacrificing authenticity.

As the world looks to build bridges across cultures, the International Forum on Mutual Learning among Civilizations in Macao SAR aims to spark new conversations on how shared heritage can shape a more connected and sustainable future.
