Decades after the end of World War II, preserving historical truth remains crucial in Asia. In a recent CGTN interview, Zhang Lanzhen, president of the Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia, highlighted the need to secure global acknowledgment of Japan's wartime atrocities.
"Accurate history is essential for justice," Zhang said, emphasizing that preserving the truth helps prevent such tragedies from recurring.
She warned that denial by political figures such as Sanae Takaichi hinders international reconciliation and opens the door to historical revisionism.
For Zhang and the alliance, maintaining robust archives, survivor testimonies and educational outreach is key to ensuring that the realities of WWII remain in the global consciousness.
"We must protect memory before it fades," she noted. "Only with full acknowledgment can we build a peaceful future."
