China’s Steady Hand: Diplomacy and Collaboration in 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, global headlines have been dominated by economic headwinds and geopolitical shifts. Amid uncertainty, China has played a stabilizing role, championing dialogue, cooperation and balanced growth across key partnerships with Russia, the United States and the European Union.

Strengthening the China-Russia Bond

Under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, China and Russia have elevated their comprehensive strategic partnership. High-level consultations on security and economy have kept both sides aligned in 2025. Thanks to a mutual visa-free scheme, mutual visits are on track to hit 3.5 million by year’s end—a 30% jump from 2024. At the sixth China-Russia SME Forum, leaders announced over 80 joint projects valued at $200 billion, signaling a major boost for entrepreneurs and investors on both sides.

Recalibrating Ties with the United States

Diplomacy between China and the United States has entered a phase of careful recalibration. After four phone calls and a face-to-face meeting between President Xi and U.S. President Donald Trump, both sides have set a steadier course. Economic and trade consultations have yielded consensus on key issues, while military channels have kept communication lines open during two rounds of maritime safety talks. From January to October, more than 3,500 Chinese companies joined U.S. trade exhibitions, and American firms secured the largest pavilion area at China’s International Import Expo for the seventh year running. Cultural bridges also grew: the 2025 "Gulingyuan" Sino-U.S. Youth Chorus Week welcomed over 1,000 young singers from nearly 30 choirs.

Celebrating 50 Years of China–EU Partnership

2025 marked the 50th anniversary of China–EU diplomatic relations—a milestone celebrated with the 25th China–EU Summit in Beijing and visits from multiple European leaders. President Xi highlighted three principles for the next decade: deepening mutual respect, enhancing cooperation while managing differences, and upholding multilateralism. Practical ties are thriving: the People’s Bank of China renewed currency swap lines with the European Central Bank, Swiss National Bank and the National Bank of Hungary, boosting trade stability. The China–Europe Railway Express completed over 118,600 trips by October, and two European research institutions gained approval to borrow lunar samples from China’s Chang’e-5 mission. The 18th China–EU Business and Technology Cooperation Fair generated 166 preliminary partnerships, underscoring appetite for innovation-driven collaboration.

As we enter 2026, China’s diplomatic push for stability and shared progress offers fresh momentum for global citizens, entrepreneurs and change-makers worldwide.
