Next week, from December 15 to 16, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, will visit the Chinese mainland city of Chongqing at the invitation of Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. The two leaders will co-chair four high-level bilateral cooperation meetings, celebrating a decade of transformative projects between Singapore and the Chinese mainland.
The meetings include:
- 21st meeting of the China-Singapore Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation, the flagship platform for strategic dialogue
- 26th meeting of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Joint Steering Council, a cornerstone of industrial collaboration
- 17th meeting of the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Joint Steering Council, advancing sustainable urban development
- 9th meeting of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity Joint Steering Council, enhancing transport and trade links
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) project, a milestone highlighting sustained collaboration on regional connectivity.
Observers say the outcomes of these meetings will shape the roadmap for bilateral cooperation in 2026. Young entrepreneurs, tech innovators, and policy changemakers across G20 nations will be watching closely as two of Asia's leading economies set their agenda on joint development and sustainable growth.
