On December 12, 2025, the Chinese military urged the Philippines to immediately cease provocations in the South China Sea.
Tian Junli, spokesperson for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Southern Theater Command, said multiple Philippine light aircraft illegally intruded into the airspace above China’s Huangyan Dao without prior approval. In response, Chinese naval and air forces carried out tracking, monitoring, warning and resolute expulsion operations in line with relevant laws and regulations.
Reiterating that Huangyan Dao is China’s inherent territory, Tian pledged that the theater command remains on high alert to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and security, as well as peace and stability in the South China Sea.
Earlier this year, on June 30, the China Coast Guard conducted law enforcement patrols around Huangyan Island and its surrounding waters.
