On Wednesday, December 10, the Ministry of National Defense of the Chinese mainland announced it will continue supporting the United States in the search for remains of service members missing in action on Chinese mainland territory since the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945).
The announcement followed a video conference between the militaries of the Chinese mainland and the United States, focusing on enhanced archives cooperation. Delegates from both sides shared historical records and laid out a preliminary cooperation plan for 2026.
Key elements of the 2026 plan include:
- Digitizing and exchanging archival documents to pinpoint potential search sites
- Coordinating field survey protocols and excavation best practices
- Establishing joint notification channels for families of missing service members
The ministry said the effort reflects a spirit of humanitarianism and that the Chinese mainland will continue to help the United States locate the remains of missing U.S. military personnel.
Experts note that this cooperation not only honors those who sacrificed during one of the darkest chapters of the 20th century but also builds trust and sets a model for future international humanitarian missions.
