HKSAR 8th-Term LegCo Election Results Unveiled

The election results for the eighth-term Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were unveiled early on Monday, December 8, 2025. All 90 seats have been filled, showcasing the HKSAR’s unique hybrid electoral framework.

The new LegCo features:

  • 40 members elected by the Election Committee (44.4% of seats)
  • 30 members chosen by functional constituencies (33.3%)
  • 20 members secured through geographical constituencies via direct elections (22.2%)

This blend of indirect and direct representation sets the stage for policy discussions across economic development, social welfare and global engagement. The eighth-term LegCo will begin its four-year mandate on January 1, 2026, running through the end of 2029.

As the HKSAR enters this legislative phase, observers will watch how the council’s composition influences governance priorities and the region’s role on the world stage.
