Docking at Zhongshan Station
On December 6, 2025, China’s 42nd Antarctic expedition team arrived in the supply zone near Zhongshan Station in Antarctica. The team has begun unloading 2,000 tonnes of critical supplies—ranging from scientific instruments to fuel and provisions—to support research and daily operations. These logistics efforts are slated to wrap up within two weeks.
Powering Polar Science
The delivered materials will underpin a wide array of studies, including climate monitoring, marine biology and glaciology. Antarctica holds 70% of the planet’s freshwater, and data from these experiments feed global models that track ice-sheet dynamics and sea-level rise.
A Hub for Global Collaboration
As one of six year-round research stations on the continent, Zhongshan Station is a key node in international networks. The 42nd expedition’s findings will join datasets from other research bases, fostering cross-border cooperation on sustainability and environmental policy.
Looking Ahead
With unloading operations underway through mid-December, scientists are preparing to kick off field campaigns, drone surveys and ice-core drilling. The global community will be watching closely for insights that could reshape our understanding of the Earth’s frozen frontier.
