Abreu Hat Trick Leads Beijing Guoan to Chinese FA Cup Victory

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, Angolan striker Fabio Abreu inspired Beijing Guoan to a commanding 3-0 win over Henan in the Chinese FA Cup final. His first-ever hat trick against Henan ended the capital club’s seven-year wait for the Cup crown and delivered the fifth in their history.

The match kicked off at a frenetic pace as both teams fielded full-strength lineups. Guoan broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Abreu pounced on a loose ball after Henan goalkeeper Wang Guoming made an initial save. Just before halftime, a deflected shot from Abreu earned them a penalty, which he coolly converted to make it 2-0 at the break.

The second half saw Henan ramp up the intensity, with several cautions reflecting the fierce contest. In stoppage time, Guoan earned another spot kick after Zhang Yuning was brought down. Though Wang saved Abreu’s first attempt, a retake was awarded for an early keeper movement, and Abreu finished emphatically to complete his hat trick.

The victory capped a mixed Chinese Super League campaign — Guoan finished fourth — but their Cup run has injected fresh momentum as they look ahead to next season. Abreu, this season’s league top scorer, said, "I had never scored against Henan in 11 matches, but today was different. We came here determined to win, and now we’ll celebrate this trophy with our fans in Beijing."

The final drew more than 40,000 spectators, including over 20,000 traveling Henan supporters — outnumbering home fans in Suzhou. Henan midfielder Wang Shangyuan reflected, "It’s disappointing to reach our first final in 31 years and fall short. We’re grateful for the fans’ support and will aim higher next year."

With this triumph, Beijing Guoan reclaim the Chinese FA Cup for the first time since 2018, reinforcing their status among the nation’s elite clubs.
