Thailand Pavilion Debuts at Hainan Film Festival Amid 50 Years of Sino-Thai Ties

This week, the Thailand Pavilion made its debut at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival in Sanya, marking a milestone in Sino-Thai cultural collaboration. As the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, the Pavilion brings together film, culture and tourism under one roof.

Through December 7, visitors can explore an immersive lineup of Thai cinema, ranging from contemporary dramas to groundbreaking documentaries. Over 20 feature films and short films highlight Thailand’s diverse storytelling, with special screenings accompanied by panel discussions featuring directors, producers and cultural experts.

Beyond the screen, the Pavilion hosts business and networking sessions aimed at fostering partnerships in media and entertainment. Young entrepreneurs and creators are connecting with counterparts from the Chinese mainland, exploring co-production opportunities and new distribution channels across Asia.

Statistics underscore the strengthening ties: bilateral trade in creative industries has grown by 35 percent this year, while Thai visitor arrivals to the Chinese mainland rose 20 percent in the first ten months of 2025. Cultural tourism initiatives showcased at the Pavilion include guided film-location tours and sustainable travel experiences that appeal to digital nomads and global citizens alike.

As the festival unfolds, the Thailand Pavilion stands as a vibrant testament to five decades of friendship, opening new doors for cross-border collaboration in film and beyond.
