China and France Foreign Ministers Meet in Beijing to Strengthen Strategic Trust

On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beijing ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's upcoming state visit this month.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that every encounter between the two heads of state is a landmark moment for Sino-French relations and commands global attention. "We believe that through our joint efforts, this visit will further enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen strategic cooperation, and inject new momentum into our comprehensive strategic partnership," he said.

Facing a world of increasing complexity—from economic volatility to climate challenges—Wang underscored the importance of closer communication and cooperation. As two major powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and France have a shared responsibility to act as stabilizing forces on the global stage.

The foreign minister also addressed recent remarks made by the current Japanese leader on China's Taiwan region, warning of the serious risks posed by attempts to stir up tensions. He stressed that, as victorious nations of World War II, China and France should safeguard the hard-won outcomes paid for with blood and firmly oppose any effort to repeat historical mistakes.

"China hopes and believes that France will continue to understand and support its legitimate position," Wang added, emphasizing the broader goal of a more resilient and cooperative partnership.
