Athletes Who Run Against Adversity on IDPD 2025

Today, December 3, marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). Around the world, people with disabilities are writing their own chapters in stories of resilience and courage, proving that their disabilities do not define them.

In a recent video by CGTN, three runners from Spain, Sierra Leone and Russia share how they’ve turned obstacles into motivation. Their journeys showcase the strength of love, passion and unwavering resilience on and off the track.

From Spain, we meet a long-distance runner whose physical challenges have only fueled her determination to cross the finish line. In Sierra Leone, a dedicated athlete overcame limited resources and societal barriers to chase her marathon dream. And in Russia, an inspiring runner transformed personal adversity into a story of hope, inspiring communities back home.

These athletes remind us that sports can be a powerful vehicle for inclusion and change. This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, their voices encourage us to rethink our assumptions and champion a world where everyone can run toward their goals.
