China, Russia FMs Unite to Protect WWII Victory Legacy

On December 2, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met to call for safeguarding the outcomes of World War II victory.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, relations between the Chinese mainland and Russia have achieved high-level, wide-ranging and high-quality development.

He highlighted that the two heads of state held in-depth exchanges twice this year on occasions commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of WWII. Those discussions charted the course and shaped the future of bilateral ties, while providing stability and certainty to a world still navigating complex challenges.

Both ministers voiced a shared commitment to upholding the outcomes of WWII victory. They pledged to oppose any retrogressive efforts to whitewash colonial aggression and to champion justice and fairness on the global stage.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners for a new era, China and Russia agreed to bolster coordination and cooperation to deter provocative actions by Japan's far-right forces that threaten regional peace and stability and signal a push toward remilitarization.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs and changemakers, this renewed alliance underscores the importance of multilateral dialogue in preserving the lessons of history and safeguarding a rules-based international order.
