Europeans Rally Round Ukraine as Trump Envoy Heads to Moscow

This week, European leaders rallied round Ukraine’s call for a seat at the negotiating table as a Trump envoy heads to Moscow, underscoring a united front for an inclusive peace process.

On Monday, December 1, at the Elysee Palace in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Macron stressed that any plan to end the conflict must involve both Ukraine and European partners directly.

Discussions covered frozen Russian assets, solid security guarantees and Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union. Macron emphasized that agreements on these issues must be finalized with Europeans at the table, noting there is no ready-made peace plan today.

Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s goal of ending the war in a dignified manner. He called for robust security guarantees and warned that territorial questions will be the most challenging to resolve in future talks.

Meanwhile in Berlin, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Merz echoed Macron’s stance, rejecting any dictated peace deal made without Ukraine’s and Europe’s participation. Tusk highlighted joint efforts by Poland and Germany to bolster European security.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics also weighed in, insisting that Europe must have a key role at the negotiating table for any future peace agreement in Ukraine.

As Europe coordinates its diplomatic push, the focus remains on forging a dignified, inclusive settlement backed by strong guarantees and broad participation, both in Kyiv and beyond.
