Hong Kong to Lower Flags in Mourning After Tai Po Fire

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced that from Saturday, Nov 29 to Monday, Dec 1, Chinese national flags and HKSAR flags at all government buildings and facilities across the region will fly at half-mast. This gesture mourns the victims of the recent residential area fire in Tai Po, the HKSAR government said on Friday.

During these three days, key government officials will cancel non-essential public activities. All entertainment and celebration events organized and funded by the government will also be canceled or postponed as circumstances require.

For many residents and observers, these solemn measures underscore Hong Kongโ€™s commitment to honoring those lost and supporting affected families. As the community reflects on the tragedy, local and global audiences alike watch how city leaders balance mourning with the resumption of daily life.
