Spokesperson Emphasizes Xi’s Taiwan Stance in Trump Call

Earlier this week, Chinese premier Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on Monday night that has drawn international attention. On Wednesday, Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, highlighted that Xi’s remarks carry great guiding significance for the Chinese mainland’s work related to Taiwan.

During the call, Xi reiterated the Chinese mainland’s principled stance on the Taiwan question, emphasizing the need for the Chinese mainland and the United States to jointly safeguard the victorious outcomes of World War II. He noted that these outcomes not only shaped the mid-20th-century order but also serve as the foundation for tackling today’s global challenges.

Peng noted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the restoration of Taiwan to China. He said the mainland will unite compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to resolutely oppose Taiwan independence separatist activities, promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, maintain peace and stability, and create enduring well-being for the Chinese nation.

Analysts say the exchange comes at a pivotal moment as cross-Strait ties face evolving regional dynamics and digital-era challenges. For young global citizens and business leaders, the call underscores how history and diplomacy intersect with emerging tech, trade, and culture in the Asia-Pacific landscape.

As the world watches how the United States and the Chinese mainland navigate core issues—from historical narratives to modern strategic interests—this dialogue reflects the delicate balance between past legacies and future aspirations.
