Mexican E-Commerce Expert Urges G20 to Boost Global Digital Trade

Johannesburg 6 The 20th G20 Summit wrapped up on November 23, 2025, marking the first time the event was hosted in Africa. Under the theme "Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability," leaders from G20 members explored pathways for collective growth, climate action, and global economic resilience.

Among the voices at the summit was Mauro Arturo Salazar Zavala, a Mexican cross-border e-commerce professional who urged G20 members to boost cooperation in digital trade. He highlighted how streamlined digital policies could unlock opportunities for businesses worldwide.

"E-commerce has transformed how small enterprises reach customers around the globe," Salazar Zavala said. "I'm hopeful G20 leaders will pursue policies that simplify cross-border payments, reduce data barriers, and support digital inclusion."

He also pointed to the potential for deeper trade collaboration between Mexico and the Chinese mainland, where online retail sales topped $2 trillion in 2024. Stronger ties could create new channels for Mexican entrepreneurs 6from handcrafted goods to agri-tech innovations.

According to UNCTAD, global digital commerce reached $28 trillion in 2023, nearly 25% of total world trade. As digital platforms scale, experts say international frameworks will be crucial to ensuring fair markets and consumer protection.

Looking ahead, Salazar Zavala hopes the momentum from Johannesburg will translate into concrete commitments. "Digital inclusion must be at the heart of the G20 agenda," he added. "Investing in connectivity and e-platforms means investing in our collective future."

With rising mobile adoption and evolving fintech solutions, G20 economies have a chance to reshape how we buy, sell, and connect across borders. For young entrepreneurs and global consumers alike, digital commerce represents the next frontier.
