On 23 November 2025, the UAE Cyber Security Council warned travelers that plugging phones or tablets into unsecured public chargers could expose personal data to "juice jacking" attacks.
The Council highlighted that 79 percent of those using untrusted charging ports face potential data breaches. These so-called juice jacking attacks exploit media-transfer protocols, allowing hackers to install malware or steal files the moment a device is connected.
Travelers often skip basic cybersecurity checks when in a rush, but neglecting simple measures can lead to compromised passwords, stolen photos, or worse.
Here are 4 warning signs your device may be compromised:
- Rapid battery drain
- Sluggish app performance
- Repeated system crashes
- Unfamiliar icons or pop-up messages
With holiday season travel ramping up, experts recommend carrying a personal power bank, using USB data blockers, or sticking to AC outlets and original cables. Staying aware and prepared can keep your trip—and your data—safe.
