This past Friday night, more than 100 firefighters battled a fire aboard a ship at the Port of Los Angeles, tackling blazes in cargo bays that held hazardous materials. Crews donned protective gear and breathing equipment as they worked to contain the flames.
By around 8:27 p.m., all 23 crew members had been led to safety with no injuries reported, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The swift evacuation underscored the department’s coordinated response to maritime emergencies.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X that authorities are closely monitoring air quality as fire suppression efforts continue, prioritizing community safety in nearby neighborhoods.
