China and Tajikistan Launch First Strategic Dialogue in Dushanbe

Today in Dushanbe, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin launched the inaugural strategic dialogue between the two ministries. Against the backdrop of complex global shifts, this mechanism aims to inject fresh momentum into a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Wang highlighted the deep-rooted friendship, noting that China and Tajikistan are 'linked by mountains and rivers' and credited the steady rise in bilateral ties to the strategic guidance of both heads of state. He also reviewed outcomes from the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, noting that China’s ongoing five-year plans and high-quality opening-up are poised to generate new opportunities for Tajikistan.

To drive the new dialogue forward, Wang proposed a roadmap centered on five key areas:

  • Reinforcing strategic alignment and mutual support
  • Advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation
  • Expanding trade, investment, and economic connectivity
  • Deepening people-to-people exchanges through cultural and educational programs
  • Strengthening joint security cooperation and regional stability

He also emphasized the importance of multilateral coordination, from upholding the one-China principle to collaborating within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and supporting Tajikistan’s new role in the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).

Muhriddin praised China’s long-term support and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s firm commitment to the one-China principle. He welcomed closer cooperation in trade, green minerals, infrastructure, and connectivity, and echoed Wang’s call for joint efforts on peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan.

The two ministers concluded with a joint statement, setting a clear agenda to deepen ties and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
