On November 22, 2025, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a Political Bureau member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, in Dushanbe, marking a significant step in their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Rahmon highlighted that China is Tajikistan’s friendly neighbor and closest partner, with bilateral ties growing rapidly in recent years. China has become Tajikistan’s largest trading partner and top source of investment, according to the president, who expressed confidence in the future of their cooperation.
The president reaffirmed Tajikistan’s firm commitment to the one-China principle and praised the Global Governance Initiative for its role in improving the global political and economic order. Tajikistan supports the initiative and aims to work with China within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China-Central Asia Mechanism to safeguard common interests and uphold international fairness and justice.
Wang noted that close communication between the two heads of state has built strong mutual trust and deep friendship. He said both sides have reached consensus on building a China-Tajikistan community with a shared future, putting bilateral relations on a fast track.
The Chinese foreign minister emphasized that China views Tajikistan as a trustworthy partner and reliable friend. He pledged to fully implement the leaders’ consensus and deepen their partnership in the new era, and briefed Rahmon on plans for high-quality development and high-level opening up in China, promising more opportunities and broader prospects for cooperation.
Security cooperation was also on the agenda. Wang proposed enhanced coordination within the SCO and the China-Central Asia Mechanism to combat the three forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, strengthening the security foundation for both nations.
On the same day, Wang and Tajik foreign minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin held the first China-Tajikistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue, setting the stage for deeper diplomatic engagement and collaborative projects across trade, investment and security.
