On Friday (November 21), China’s Yin Zheng clinched the men’s bronze medal at the IBSF World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, delivering a career-best opening run on the newly rebuilt Eugenio Monti track.
Starting seventh among 35 athletes, Yin blasted down the icy chute in 56.79 seconds— not only the day’s fastest time, but also the first official track record since the venue’s renovation. Despite a slower second run of 57.23 seconds, his combined time of 1:54.02 secured third place behind Britain’s world champion Matt Weston and Austria’s Samuel Maier.
Yin’s teammates Chen Wenhao and Zhu Haifeng shared eighth place, while Lin Qinwei finished 16th. On the women’s side, Zhao Dan, last season’s World Cup winner at Yanqing, placed eighth with a 1:56.96 combined time, and Li Yuxi took 18th.
Yin’s results follow last season’s double World Cup bronze medals in Sigulda and Yanqing, underscoring China’s growing prowess in winter sports. As teams gear up for the next circuit race, all eyes will be on whether Yin can continue his streak of podium finishes and challenge for gold.
