Each year, the Chinese mainland reports over one million new cases of acute myocardial infarction, with incidence rising among those under 45. This year, data show a clear trend toward younger onset. As winter chills set in, understanding and spotting early warning signs of AMI commonly known as a heart attack can be life-saving.
Today, November 20, marks the Chinese mainlands annual Heart Attack Treatment Day, a public awareness initiative designed to promote early detection and standardized emergency care for AMI.
Whos at risk?
- Coronary artery disease
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol and hyperlipidemia
- Obesity
- Smoking and other unhealthy lifestyles
Symptoms and early warning signs:
- Persistent chest pain lasting 15 620 minutes or longer
- Shortness of breath and excessive sweating
- Pain radiating to the left arm, neck, jaw, or upper back
- Atypical signs like back pain, upper abdominal discomfort, or even a toothache
"Early recognition is critical," says Dr Wang Yupeng of Peking University Third Hospital. "If you or someone nearby experiences these symptoms, call emergency services immediately. Fast, standardized care can dramatically improve survival rates."
This winter, prioritize your heart health by staying active, managing stress and seeking professional advice if any warning signs arise. Stay warm, stay vigilant, and keep your heart strong this season.
