Liuyang’s ‘Crimson Sun’ Fireworks Ignite Hunan Skies

Under the night sky of Liuyang, Hunan Province, a “Crimson Sun” ignited by a golden cascade of light took center stage earlier this month, captivating audiences with its blend of age-old tradition and cutting-edge pyro-technology.

The annual fireworks festival—held on November 14—marks Liuyang’s standing as the world’s fireworks capital. Local manufacturers, who account for over 60% of the Chinese mainland’s fireworks exports, showcased innovations like unmanned drone choreography synchronized to the pyro burst.

Organizers estimate more than 30,000 visitors streamed into Liuyang during the three-day event, injecting an estimated $5 million into the local economy. Young travelers and digital nomads joined pyro workshops, exploring how green chemistry is reducing fine-particle emissions in modern fireworks.

The event was live-streamed across social platforms in over 25 countries and regions, drawing millions of online viewers. Tech enthusiasts flocked to virtual reality booths, immersing themselves in 360-degree panoramas of the cascade—proof that Liuyang’s pyro scene is as much about digital innovation as it is about explosive art.

“Each burst is a story,” said Liu Chen, head of Liuyang Fireworks Innovation Center. “From the spark’s chemistry to the choreographed finale, it’s a testament to human creativity.” As Liuyang prepares for the Lantern Festival in 2026, the world eagerly awaits the next blazing chapter in its skyward saga.
