Pirro Praises Macao’s Street Circuit as a ‘Special’ Grand Prix Stage

Earlier this month, the 72nd Macao Grand Prix roared through the streets of the Macao SAR, running from November 13 to 16 alongside key events at China’s 15th National Games. For locals and global racing fans alike, it was a showcase of speed, precision, and tradition.

In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene’s Shen Xiang, FIA Single-Seater Commission President Emanuele Pirro reflected on why Macao stands out: “The track here hasn’t changed in years—making it rare in today’s world. Street racing demands that drivers hit their marks with pinpoint accuracy.”

This year marked the debut of the Formula 4 World Cup on the legendary circuit. As Pirro explained, the event’s location on Macao’s winding streets adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement not found on modern tracks.

A former Formula 1 driver and five-time 24 Hours de Les Mans winner, Pirro has raced in the Macao SAR nine times. He hopes the Grand Prix can stay on its time-tested circuit “for as long as possible,” noting that few venues offer such a blend of history and urban flair.

Beyond the track, Macao’s culture—where Portuguese heritage meets Chinese traditions—creates a vibrant backdrop for racers and fans. From historic forts overlooking the coastline to the neon glow of Senado Square, every turn offers a new story.

As motorsport evolves, Macao remains a living legend. With leaders like Pirro championing its future, the Grand Prix and its newest additions, like the Formula 4 World Cup, look set to thrill young global citizens, tech-savvy fans, and digital nomads seeking the next great adventure.
