Liu Qingyi Retains Breaking Gold at 15th National Games

On Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2025), at the 15th National Games in Guangzhou in Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland, Henan’s Liu Qingyi, aka 'B-Girl 671', retained her women’s breaking crown with a 2-1 victory over Shandong’s Guo Pu ('B-Girl Royal').

The 22-year-old defending champion first dominated the previous edition in Shaanxi in 2021, then topped the podium at the Hangzhou Asian Games before earning bronze in breaking’s Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Her rival in Guangzhou arrived with titles from the Asian Championships and the World Games, having beaten Liu in both finals.

The showdown delivered. Liu seized the opening two rounds with explosive power moves and Wushu-inspired flourishes that scored high on difficulty. Guo answered back in the final round, blending musicality and fluid transitions to claim a point. In the end, Liu’s technical edge and signature style secured her third major title in four years.

'I wanted to bring out the passion of battling, so I added Wushu elements and my signature moves,' Liu said. She also opened up about her mindset: 'After Paris, I struggled with injuries and confidence. I worked to control my mentality and show my best form today.'

As breaking continues to rise on the global stage, events like the National Games highlight the blend of athleticism, artistry and mental resilience driving this urban sport forward.
