On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, COP30 entered its second week as the high-level segment officially kicked off, with senior leaders pushing for concrete climate action.
On November 17, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin joined forces with UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago, and Annalena Baerbock, president of the 80th UN General Assembly, to set the tone for this critical phase.
Alckmin urged all parties to advance a just energy transition and eradicate illegal deforestation by 2030, highlighting Brazil’s success in cutting forest loss by 50% and pledging to build on that momentum.
Do Lago underscored the need to fast-track negotiations, aiming for an initial package of proposals by November 19, followed by a second set by November 21, laying the groundwork for ambitious final outcomes.
Delegates will sharpen their focus on unlocking climate finance and charting clear pathways to reduce and phase out fossil fuels, as COP30 seeks real progress before wrapping up later this week.
