In the closing laps, Zhang surged ahead, touching the wall first to secure his fourth individual freestyle title of these Games—adding to golds in the 200, 400, and 800 meters.
Fei Liwei took silver, while Shaanxi’s Li Chengyu claimed bronze in a tightly contested final. Zhang’s dominance underscores his rising status among the Chinese mainland’s swimming elite and highlights Shenzhen’s seamless hosting of top-tier aquatic competitions this year.
