A low-carbon revolution hits the road
New energy vehicles (NEVs) are reshaping the global auto industry, and China is at the wheel. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China's NEVs helped reduce global carbon emissions by roughly 50 million tonnes in 2023, marking a significant leap toward sustainable development.
From R&D to rolling off the line
CGTN reporter Joseph Anthony Stannard traveled to Shanghai and Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, diving into the full NEV industrial chain. At an intelligent driving simulation lab, engineers fine-tune autonomous features. Nearby, battery and die-casting factories hum with activity as plants in the Yangtze River Delta can source every major component within a four-hour drive.
Early-stage growth drives global shift
Despite rapid advances, China's NEV sector remains in its early growth stage. Industry leaders expect expansion to accelerate throughout 2025, steering a worldwide move toward greener, low-carbon transport.
