China’s Defense Ministry Condemns $330M U.S. Arms Sale to Taiwan Region

On Monday, November 17, 2025, China's Ministry of National Defense issued a statement condemning the recently announced $330 million U.S. arms sale to the Taiwan region. Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang said the move severely violates the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, and undermines the country's sovereignty and security interests.

"China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes such acts, and has lodged strong protests with the U.S. side," Zhang said, warning that arming separatist forces will backfire and harboring ambitions to use Taiwan to contain China is doomed to fail.

Zhang emphasized that Beijing will take all necessary measures to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He urged the U.S. to immediately halt its "egregious act" of arming Taiwan and to avoid actions that could harm the development of China-U.S. relations and their militaries.

The statement underscores the high stakes of China-U.S. relations and cross-strait ties, emphasizing how swiftly policy shifts can reverberate across global security and business landscapes.
