The 13th China-Europe Forum took place in Brussels on Thursday, bringing together diplomats, business leaders, and policy experts from across Europe and the Chinese mainland. Ambassador Cai Run emphasized that China and the EU stand as two major forces shaping a stable multipolar world, two vast markets driving globalization, and two rich civilizations celebrating cultural diversity.
This year marks important milestones: the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in Asia and Europe, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic ties. These landmarks underscore decades of cooperation amid global challenges.
Drawing on recent high-level exchanges, Ambassador Cai underlined the need to turn leader-level agreements into concrete actions. He urged both sides to seize momentum, manage differences, and strengthen dialogue to maintain steady progress in bilateral relations.
Ambassador Cai stressed mutual respect for each other’s chosen social systems and development paths, and called for support on core interests and major concerns. He affirmed that China and the EU are partners in advancing multilateralism, not rivals, and that Europe plays a crucial role as a global actor.
On the Taiwan question, the envoy reiterated that it concerns China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and remains a red line. He called on the EU to adhere to the one-China principle and respect China’s core interests and concerns on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong, and human rights.
Looking ahead, he highlighted the importance of managing economic and trade frictions to expand cooperation, uphold a rules-based international order, and foster sustainable growth for businesses and consumers in both markets.
As global citizens watch closely, the forum’s message is clear: deeper China-EU engagement can power global stability, economic resilience, and cultural exchange in an increasingly interconnected world.
