Peng Liyuan and Queen Letizia Visit Beijing Disability Center

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Queen Letizia of Spain visited the Beijing Service Center for Persons with Disabilities. This visit highlights the growing focus on accessibility and inclusion across the Chinese mainland.

At the center, the two dignitaries explored a themed exhibition showcasing the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. They then toured an exhibition hall featuring high-tech assistive products—from AI-powered wheelchairs to smart prosthetics—and visited a non-profit reading area where children with disabilities enjoy tailored story sessions.

Peng and Letizia engaged warmly with trainees developing baking, handicraft, and painting skills. They also met children undergoing rehabilitation exercises to regain mobility and independence. In a touching moment, children with visual disabilities performed the Chinese song “Songs and Smiles” to welcome their guests.

Peng emphasized that supporting persons with disabilities requires joint efforts from governments, businesses, and communities. She expressed hope that China and Spain will deepen exchanges and cooperation to help turn the dreams of persons with disabilities into reality.

Queen Letizia inquired about the employment of women with disabilities and praised the achievements the Chinese mainland has made in creating barrier-free facilities and inclusive policies.

This visit underlines the power of international partnership in advancing disability inclusion and harnessing technology for social good.
