This week in Shanghai on the Chinese mainland, the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) wrapped up with record-breaking scale and trade intent, bringing together 67 countries and international organizations under one roof.
For the first time, Kyrgyzstan joined the national pavilions, weaving its grassland Silk Road heritage into a vibrant display of culture and commerce. The booth’s design featured the country’s iconic red dome and highlighted specialty products such as honey, jam, wool and sheepskin goods, plus herbal handmade soaps.
Positioned at a crossroads of the ancient Silk Road, Kyrgyzstan serves as a crucial corridor linking Eurasia. This year, its delegation viewed the expo as a strategic platform to boost its national image and expand agricultural exports.
“The China International Import Expo plays a key role in strengthening the economic partnership between our two countries,” said Tilek Zhumaliev, deputy director of the Export Development and Promotion Center at Kyrgyz Export. “Each year, participation in CIIE helps Kyrgyz businesses build new partnerships, attract investment, and better understand the Chinese market. It also allows both governments and private sectors to explore new areas of cooperation in logistics, manufacturing, and e-commerce.”
As a dialogue of civilizations across mountains and oceans, CIIE offers young entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, and culturally curious travelers a window into emerging markets and sustainable pathways for trade and cultural exchange. With new connections forged, Kyrgyzstan is riding the momentum of its CIIE debut into broader partnerships and growth opportunities ahead.
