On November 7, creativity crossed continents as the Chinese mainland, Brazil and Chile came together for the fifth annual “Cloud Open Day.” Hosted in Beijing, this digital festival connected Han opera troupes from Guangdong, Hubei and Fujian provinces on the Chinese mainland with folk musicians and dancers from Rio de Janeiro and Santiago. Over live video, performers showcased centuries-old art forms, from the operatic arias of the Chinese mainland to the vibrant rhythms of Brazilian samba and Chilean cueca.
Organized by the State Grid Corporation of China since 2021, “Cloud Open Day” has evolved into a dynamic platform for cultural exchange. Last year’s event reached over 20,000 online viewers across three continents, highlighting how virtual formats can amplify living heritage. By blending traditional costumes, instruments and storytelling, this year’s showcase fostered mutual understanding and sparked collaboration among young artists who plan to tour cross-border workshops in 2024.
For global citizens, entrepreneurs and changemakers, “Cloud Open Day” offers a fresh model for international cooperation. It proves that with digital tools, culture can travel farther than ever before—building bridges and nurturing empathy at a time when shared experiences matter most.
