At the COP30 climate conference in Belem, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, serving as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, underscored China’s unwavering backing for the United Nations’ central role in global affairs. Speaking on the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding, Ding emphasized that “no matter how the international landscape evolves, China will adhere to true multilateralism.”
He highlighted growing cooperation between China and the UN, noting that Beijing is committed to high-quality, green, and low-carbon development. By rolling out practical measures at home and exporting cutting-edge, eco-friendly technologies abroad, China aims to support the worldwide green transition and boost sustainable growth.
Ding also called on all parties to strengthen dialogue and join forces in shaping a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature. “We stand ready to work with partners to ensure COP30’s success, send a powerful signal in favor of multilateralism, and build a more peaceful, sustainable world,” he said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised China’s climate leadership, commending its track record of meeting—and exceeding—its environmental commitments. He described China as a “key leader in global climate governance” and an “important pillar of world peace.” Guterres also welcomed President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative as a crucial step toward reforming the global system and affirmed his readiness to deepen collaboration.
As international leaders converge in Belem, China’s message is clear: multilateral cooperation remains the best path forward for tackling climate change and safeguarding global stability.
