At the recent Global South Media Partnership Mechanism Inauguration Meeting and the 13th Global Video Media Forum in Xi'an, international media reps stepped back in time thanks to a stunning welcome ceremony at Yongning Gate. Dubbed "Dream of Chang'an – The Grand Tang Welcoming Ceremony," the performance brought Tang Dynasty rituals to life with vivid colors, elaborate costumes, and immersive storytelling.
Performers in authentic Tang Dynasty attire recreated imperial reception rituals, guiding guests through a sensory journey that felt both grand and intimate. From the rustle of silk robes to the rhythmic drumming, every detail echoed the majesty of Chang'an, Xi'an's ancient capital.
Visitors were awestruck. Linda Bauma, advisor to the DRC's Minister of Communication, said, "We felt like royalty in the emperor's court – the costumes, presence, and performance were truly impressive." Juan Carlos Isaza, managing director of the Latin American Information Alliance, added, "I felt transported a thousand years back. The city's scale and beauty, paired with the show's colors and makeup, were simply incredible."
The ceremony set an inspiring tone for discussions on media cooperation across the Global South, using Xi'an's legacy as the Silk Road's starting point to highlight the power of cross-cultural exchange. Delegates will dive into content sharing, professional training, joint productions, and academic dialogue throughout the forum.
Launched by CCTV+ in 2011, the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism and annual VMF event have become key platforms for video communication trends. By fostering collaboration and innovation, these gatherings aim to strengthen media connections and amplify diverse voices from every corner of the Global South.
