In a pivotal phone call on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed a shared vision for a balanced approach to the Iranian nuclear issue. Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that an objective stance and open dialogue remain key to ending the current stalemate.
Highlighting Iran’s recent pledge not to pursue nuclear weapons, Wang voiced support for Tehran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy. He emphasized that the international community benefits when negotiation channels stay open, urging all parties to return to the negotiating table.
Araghchi welcomed China’s fair and constructive role, pledging that Iran would boost coordination based on equality and mutual benefit. With next year marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both sides see a roadmap for deeper ties.
During their call, Wang pointed to successful high-level meetings in September, where both heads of state outlined strategic guidance for cooperation. He said China is ready to work with Iran on national development, revitalization, and elevating their comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.
Looking beyond bilateral ties, Wang praised Iran’s support for four major global initiatives, inviting joint efforts to build a fairer, more equitable global governance system. Araghchi echoed the sentiment, expressing Iran’s eagerness to explore new cooperation areas and strengthen mutual support in promoting regional peace and development.
