Imagine landing in Guangzhou from the island of Taiwan and securing your travel permit within 30 minutes at the airport. Starting November 20, the Chinese mainland will expand on-arrival single-entry permits for residents of Taiwan to 100 ports, according to the National Immigration Administration.
State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han announced that these single-entry permits grant up to a three-month stay and can be obtained upon arrival by air or sea, anywhere in the world. For those planning repeat visits, a card-type travel permit valid for five years is available through county-level entry and exit administrations or select travel agencies in Taiwan.
First-time visitors from Taiwan receive their permits free of charge, and more than 1,000 scenic areas on the Chinese mainland have opened their gates with free admission. All personal data is strictly protected in line with relevant laws and regulations, Zhang stressed.
Addressing recent warnings from Taiwan authorities and the Straits Exchange Foundation about risks of traveling to the mainland, Zhang called it a deliberate attempt by certain Taiwan authorities to hinder cross-Strait exchange. As long as they abide by the law, our Taiwan compatriots can come to the mainland just like coming home, safely and comfortably, she said.
This move not only simplifies logistics but also signals a broader push to strengthen cultural and economic ties across the Taiwan Strait, promising a more seamless journey for curious travelers and digital nomads alike.
