Chinese Premier Li Qiang Unveils Global Trade Vision at CIIE

At the eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, Chinese premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote that set the tone for global cooperation and high-quality growth. His speech painted a picture of mutual benefit, open markets and governance reform.

A Magnet for Global Trade
Li described the CIIE as an "estuary" where the world economy meets China’s vast market. With a record number of exhibitors this year, the event underscores the vitality of China’s super-sized consumer base and the bridge it forms between domestic demand and international supply.

Championing Fair and Inclusive Trade
Against a backdrop of slowing growth and geopolitical tensions, Li called for equality and mutual benefit, emphasizing that free trade is the best path to resolving conflicts. He urged nations to balance interests with moral righteousness, standing together through thick and thin.

Reforming Global Governance
The premier stressed the need to revamp international trade rules. China is ready to partner on the Global Governance Initiative and strengthen the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, aiming for a more just and inclusive framework.

Committed to High-Quality Growth
With the 15th Five-Year Plan recommendations approved, Li highlighted two certainties: development and opening up. China will push for high-quality growth, expand institutional opening, and pilot greater access in services, injecting stability and positive energy into the world economy.
